Age verification usually works best on a smartphone. If you're on a desktop or laptop, try switching over first.
A growing number of websites, apps and online purchases are required by law to confirm the age of the person using them.
Verifymy carries out that check on behalf of the site or retailer you’re trying to access – we’re a third-party provider, not the website itself.
We only collect what's needed to confirm your age, and typically delete it as soon as the check is complete.
There are two steps:
Use your primary email address rather than a new or temporary one, and make sure you can access your inbox.
If we are unable to confirm your age way, try a different email address or choose another method.
Record a short selfie video in a well-lit environment, holding your device at eye level with your face in frame.
Follow the on-screen instructions, make sure you’re the only person in the video, and remove anything covering your face, like hats or sunglasses.
Take a photo of your identity document. Some sites also ask for a short selfie video alongside it to ensure your face matches it.
What is accepted: Government-issued photo identity document that hasn’t expired – including driving licences, passports, residence permits, and national or state ID cards.
What’s not accepted: Library cards, donor cards, employee or student ID cards, temporary paper IDs (including provisional driving licences), prison ID cards, UK Citizencard, military ID, or paper/laminated paper ID cards – except paper Brazilian ID cards and laminated paper French ID cards, which are accepted.
A credit card is needed – debit and prepaid cards aren’t accepted, and the name and billing address must match your bank’s records.
We make a £1 charge and refund it immediately to confirm the card is active; the refund can take a few days to show depending on your bank.
If declined, double-check your card details match your bank’s records, then try another method if it still doesn’t work.
If your verification window closes before you've finished, return to the site to start again.
It can take a few minutes to arrive. If it hasn’t shown up, check your junk or spam folder, select “Resend code,” and check you entered the right email address.
Adding noreply@verifymyage.co.uk and noreply@verifymy.io to your safe senders list can help future emails land properly.
An expired link is the most common cause.
If you were verifying your age to access content online, return to the site and start again – a new link will be generated for you.
If you were verifying your age after buying an age-restricted product, contact the retailer directly for a new link. It’s worth doing this promptly, as some retailers cancel orders if verification isn’t completed in time.
If the link opens but doesn’t work: try Safari on Apple devices, check your browser has camera access, update your browser to the latest version, or clear your history and cookies and try again.
The methods on offer depend on the site you’re on and your region, so not every method appears everywhere.
Each method has a limited number of attempts. Once maximum attempts have been reached, the method will be greyed out or removed from the list.
Choose another method shown on screen. If there are none left, the site or service you’re trying to reach can advise you how best to continue.
Some common solutions include:
If photos come out blurry: clean your camera lens, move to a well-lit spot, and tap the screen to focus before taking the photo.
What we collect depends on the method you use – your email address, a selfie image for facial age estimation or ID face matching, or a photo of your identity document for an ID scan.
The data collected is used solely to confirm your age, not your identity or anything else. We don’t use it for marketing, and we don’t sell it.
Your data is encrypted both in transit and in storage, access is restricted and our systems are audited regularly by independent specialists.
Only the minimum data needed to complete a check is collected.
Our global privacy policy generally permits retention for up to a maximum of 28 days. There may be exceptions where data is deleted immediately, based on local regulatory requirements or a specific customer’s contractual obligations.
No – we don’t track your browsing activity, and once verification is complete we don’t monitor or follow what you do online.
You can ask us to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it if anything is wrong, or delete it.
How to make a request
Email support@verifymy.io with “SAR” (to see your data) or “Deletion request” (to delete it) in the subject line.

Good to know
Most personal data is deleted within 28 days. If more than 28 days have passed since you verified, we may no longer hold anything about you.
If you’ve bought a product, such as vapes, tobacco, alcohol or knives – from eBay or another retailer – you’ll receive a verification link by email.
We’re not able to verify anyone manually and we can’t accept identity documents sent by email – anything sent that way won’t be stored or used.
